Nijo Munemoto (二条宗基)

Munemoto NIJO (July 8, 1727 - February 9, 1754) was kugyo (high court noble) in the Edo period. His natural father was Yukinori KUJO. His adoptive father was Munehiro NIJO. His mother was Senhime, a daughter of Yoshimichi TOKUGAWA (adopted daughter of Tsugutomo TOKUGAWA). Shigeyoshi NIJO and Harutaka NIJO were his sons. His alias was Gokeishinin (後敬心院).

Brief Personal History

He was born to Yukinori KUJO in Kyoto in 1727. He was later adopted by Munehiro NIJO. He was appointed to Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) on May 28, 1740 (old calendar). He was later promoted to Juichii (Junior First Rank) on January 10, 1752 (old calendar). He held various posts such as Naidaijin (Minister of the Center) (1745 - 1748) and Udaijin (Minister of the Right) (1749 - 1754). He died in 1754.
